VENUE

Constantza is one of Romania’s key cities - located in the southeastern part of the country. One the most important cities in the country, Constantza is the largest port in the Black Sea and one of the main European ports.

The ancient city of Tomis (Constantza today) was founded by the Greek colonists, in the 6th Century BC, on the place of a Gaetic settlement. Its impressive history provides evidences that can be seen in museums, parks and archaeological sites.

In the Archeological Museum you can discover ancient artifacts, such as the statue of the  Goddess Fortuna, Pontos’ statue (the Black Sea’s god), Glycon’s statue (Asian divinity), antique art collections and also the Hamangia culture collection.

Among other attractive testimonies of the past, we mention: the Archeological Park, the Roman mosaic, the Mosque, the Genovian lighthouse (built in the 12th Century), the Casino.

The symbol of the city is the Latin poet Ovid, who, exiled by the Roman Emperor Augustus, settled and wrote in Tomis. Ovidius University carries his name.
